As one of the founding editors of InStyle magazine, where he served as Fashion Director for 15 years and then Editor-At-Large, he helped create the distinctive, always positive, you-can-do-this voice of InStyle and its embrace of hi/low fashion. Hal has produced events, consulted, and advised on marketing for such brands as Giorgio Armani, Coach, WWD MAGIC, Neiman Marcus, and Jones New York. Hal has also consulted for new products at DKNY and Tod’s where he designed men’s accessories. Formerly the Men’s Style Editor of The New York Times Magazine, Hal produced the award winning “Men’s Style of the Times” and numerous women’s fashion shoots. As a writer and columnist of pop culture, Hal’s cover stories, interviews and various columns have been published in The New Yorker, Elle, Interview, Vogue, New York, Vanity Fair, and Details.
